Present in animal cells absent in plant cells produce by Golgi bodies.
Lysosomes contain a collection of digestive and hydrolipic enzymes ,
EX; carbohydrace

Functions of lysosomes
Lysosomes carry out three types of digestive activities in cells
1. Intra cellular digestion
2. Extra cellular digestion
3.Auto lysis
1. Intra cellular digestion
Digestion which occurs inside the cells by lysosomes enzymes .
There are two types intra cellular digestion
Autophagy,
Digestion of cellular structures by lysosomes enzymes within the cells. This is important for recycling of materials inside the cell.
Heterophagy,
Digestion of foreign bodies inside the cells using lysosomes enzymes.
Ex; digestion of bacteria engulf by cells.
2. Extra cellular digestion
Lysosomes enzymes are secreted out of the cells. Digestion is carried out extra cellularly.
3. Autolysis
Lysosome membrane fractures and release digestive enzymes to zytosomes resulting digestion of the whole cell. Due to this activity lysosomes are refereed to as suicide cells.
